Sea Run Brown Trout, Salmo trutta
In the US & Argentina they are called Sea Run Browns, whereas in Europe and Scandanavia they are known as Sea Trout. The painting used to make these prints was a private commission of a beautiful specimen from the Norwejian fjords. There are healthy populations of Brown Trout living there in the saltwater and they have a beautiful subtle bluish-purple shine to them. I used a limited edition watercolor pigment by Winsor & Newton that was the perfect match called Smalt Blue, which is a pigment rich in history and originally used in classical stained glass. These fish are incredibly unique and beautiful and I tried to capture that in this piece.
